What does a car throttle valve do
A throttle body is a butterfly valve located between the air intake filter and the intake manifold. It regulates how much air can go into the engine, based on driver input through the gas pedal. As more air flows into the engine, it injects more fuel, thus allowing for more power
Does a throttle valve reduce pressure?
A throttling valve, by definition, is a valve that can start, stop, and regulate the amount of air going from Point A to Point B. Typically, there will be a higher amount of pressure on one side of the throttle valve with a lower amount of pressure on the opposite end.
Can a throttle body cause a car to lose power?
When the throttle body is not working correctly, there is either more or less air entering into the mixture which results in a lack of power and the car is not accelerating as it should.
How to know if the throttle body is failing
Common Symptoms of Electronic Throttle Body Failure
- Rough idle.
- Unreliable response to the accelerator pedal.
- The engine stops.
- Slow or irregular acceleration.
One of the main causes of throttle body failure is internal contamination of the EGR valve through carbon and soot buildup, the throttle valve cannot move and breaks. Removing the throttle body is done by reprogramming the engine control unit.
Diesel engines do not need the throttle body and can be removed without any effect on engine power.
